RDC Client Troubleshooting |
This is to do with the shortcut to the client application pointing to a different path.
Right click the desktop client and select Properties.
Select the Shortcut tab
Change the last line of the target from S:\ramesys\rdc\Client\bxclient.exe to
S:\ramesys\rdc\Client\rdclient.exe (S) being the server drive letter. (Failing the above create new icon with new path )
Also note in the example path above the directory ramesys could also be summit or axim depending on your system.
This is to due to you not having Administrator rights to your PC, you will need to log onto your PC as Systems Administrator and run the RDC install again.
Check the properties of your shortcut - right click on Icon on the desktop and select "Properties - Shortcut" this will show the path the shortcut is running from. When running the RDC it should auto select this path so you should just need to select the defaults. Also see "How do I check my version of Client " question this will also give you the path required.
This is dependant on were you run your Client from i.e were the shortcut points to (See question above) If you run your shortcut from the server then when you run it will update on the server. This will mean that anyone else running the same way will automatically be updated. So you will only need to install from one PC.
If your shortcut runs from your local C: Drive then you will have to install on all PCs individually
If you are running a 2.6 version of the client at present i.e 2.6.24 the run RDC Quick
If you are running a 2.5 or lesser version i.e 2.5.19 then run the FULL
If you are unsure which version you are running then run the FULL
Logon to Summit and from the main menu - Click on the "Yellow Question Mark" at the top of the screen . The information displayed should include your Desktop Client Version and the Client Directory at the bottom of the screen.
If you get this message after loading the new client then your shortcust is not pointing to the new client.
Click on Start - All Programs - RedskyIT and select the Client from here. Do you still get the error ? If not then delete the old shortcut from your desktop and drag and drop the new icon from the Redskyit menu.
Or
Is the Client running from your Server. If so change the shortcut so it runs from the correct folder on the server. Right click the icon on your desktop and check the properties of the shortcut see bulletin (Click Here)
Or
Click on Start -Run , Type in the "open" box bxclient.ini This will start notepad find the section labelled [compatabilty] and insert a # in front of the line Dlls = XXXXX . See example below :-
[Compatibility]
#DLLs=1.2.6.0
Exit and save the file and try starting the Client again
When starting up the client you get an error of the form;
You get this error regardless of running as an administrative user (if running in Admin Approval Mode) or standard user.
The problem is a result of the User Account Control mechanism in Vista.
Right click the shortcut or bxclient.exe and choose "Run as adminstrator".
- If you are an adminstrator it will ask if you should Cancel or Allow the program. Choose Allow.
- If you are a standard user it will prompt to supply the password for an adminstrative user. Supply they password and Click OK.
In both cases the client will then run successfully.
This process only needs to be run once in order that RDC COM component registration can be performed.
The purpose of this document is to highlight possible troubleshooting when loading the Client.
